Since King David, Asaph and others first wrote them, the Psalms have been an inspiration to countless Jews and Christians and this, the second of three fan-funded EPs by the always reliable Houston-based songsmith and his band of travelling troubadours, shows they have the anointing to bring blessing to the whole Church. The opener "Psalm 134 (Bless The Lord)" has a great pop-rock arrangement offset by a nagging banjo, while "Psalm 140 (Cry For Mercy)" brings out the full passion of Robbie's huskily expressive voice. It's the slow and poignant declaration of faith "Psalm 139 (You Have Searched And Known Me)" which had the strongest impact on me however. Robbie is clearly a modern day psalmist of major talent and one can but hope that his ambitious recastings of such timeless lyrics will find their way to many worshippers.
