Russ is a big name in US Christian music, if not in the Premier League at least a First Division stalwart. He is best known for fronting pop team NewSong and since branching out as a solo has shown that his blue eyed soul vocal stylings have lost none of their emotive power. With such powerful chops and studio-seasoned producer Regie Hamm called in for this project it’s all down to the quality of Russ’ compositions and it must be noted that for all their bluesy drive they remain a little stereotyped. By far the best song is a gripping power ballad “Love Is A Cross” penned by Jesse Butterworth, Joy Williams and Regie Hamm. Given the right material Russ is a truly gripping vocalist. I’m not sure though that ‘The Second Mile’ will bring about Russ' imminent promotion.
