The first of a trilogy of EPs that make up part of the multi-platform 'Dare To Ask' series by Israel-based singer/songwriter and devotional author Simcha Natan, this collection of four meditational worship pieces seeks to help the listener obtain a closer relationship with God from a position of rest. Taking inspiration from Scripture and Natan's accompanying Dare To Ask book, each track pushes off from a one word premise to gently explore various themes. For instance, the minimal opener "Wake" deals with starting the day right with God whilst "Rest" and "Breathe" promote taking time to be still in the Lord. Natan's soothing voice is skilfully accompanied by a non-intrusive musical backdrop created by producers Jack Kircher and Pete Coggan who blend ambient and electronic elements with regular instruments such as electric guitar and piano to offer up a sound that will relate to those who enjoy modern worship music whilst pushing the boat out sufficiently to offer up something fresh. In order to fully appreciate this EP, I suspect that the other parts of the 'Dare To Ask' series need to be sampled - amongst them the aforementioned book, two 30 day devotionals and some art projects - but, thanks to the skill of all involved, this release works sufficiently well as a standalone piece.
