Although Ernestine was considered one of the matriarchs in the development of gospel music she didn't enjoy the success of Mahalia Jackson or Sister Rosetta Tharpe. However these tracks, recorded in the '50s and originally released on two albums on Westminster and Delden, stand up pretty well even though the recordings were aimed at white audiences. The tracks were cut live at Washington Temple Church Of Christ in Brooklyn and feature many gospel evergreens including a pulverising version of "There Is Power In The Blood" (here called "Pentecostal Power"). If you enjoy old school gospel this is well worth investigating.
