St John's New Wine bring a refreshing taste to p&w standards as well as letting us sample their own delicacies. There's thoughtful guitar work on the meditational "He Was Pierced" and spiritual energy in the lively "Jesus, We Celebrate". Original arrangements work well, particularly the "Prepare Ye The Way/Day By Day/In Your Church Lord" medley. Vocals falter only on "He Is The One", where the melodic keyboard fails to inspire what sounds like some tired voices. The tape's highlight is Michael Wang's festive "This Is The Child" which, had it been written by the likes of Graham Kendrick, would be ringing out of many a church by the end of the year. Beautifully arranged, it begins acappella, using minimal instrumental backing as it progresses. Definitely, one to savour. Costing half as much as big name contemporaries, this is a sound buy.
