Back in 2009 some Cross Rhythms readers, listeners and I enjoyed Bournemouth-based Steve's 'Right Here In This Room' album where he put electronic beats to some preaching samples to make something that was both spiritually powerful and sounded good (not an easy combination to achieve). In 2015 he released this three-song EP through the good folks at Proost. As with much ambient electronica it takes time to grow on you but grow on you it will. If you're looking for something which will be good to play while you're meditating on the Word or just relaxing with mates I'd recommend this and particularly "Paradise" which moves from a concert grand-driven first part to then unexpectedly bringing in a ricocheting hip-hop-like rhythm before slowly fading kind of back where it started. Steve is clearly no one trick pony and I'd love to go to a chillout room or a soaking session where Steve's music might be more than just good "background music" (a term I suspect Steve dislikes).
