The UK-born back keyboard maestro has made all kinds of recordings down the years: a vocal R&B soul album, an instrumental jazz worship project and with wife Velvetta has brought a gospel tinge to many of Graham Kendrick's mid-period albums. But, despite all of Steve's talents and the fact that he's helped out here by respected musicians like Raul D'Oliveira on trumpet, flugel horn and shofar, this tepid instrumental selection of Kendrick oldies doesn't even begin to catch fire. The material ranges from "O Lord The Clouds Are Gathering" and "Amazing Love" through to "Such Love" and "Shine Jesus Shine", a selection of everyone's GK favourites. I can't fault the musicianship and overall production. I'm just concerned that this strays too far over the line into Christian muzak. I can imagine it playing softly in the background during a time of ministry in some churches, but this is an ill conceived project, despite all the talent on offer.
