British cleric and composer of TV music Steven has been working on 'The Psalms Project' for awhile now and these recordings, utilising the voices of some friends and associates such as Hannah Clair, Selah Corbin, Imogen Faux and Matthew Featherstone, bring new life to his original take on the psalmists' ancient lyrics. Sometimes restful and meditational and other times dramatic and bombastic, most work well with "Psalm 16 (Keep Me Well)", "Psalm 1 (Streams)" and "Psalm 72 (With Justice)" all registering and suggesting these could work as part of a worship service. The arrangements too are strong with Clem Faux's soprano sax and the choir Cantilena adding rich embellishments in places.
