This video contains a selection of songs taken from the Sunday School Favorites cassettes. (See elsewhere in this issue for a review of them.) "A colorful group of happy kids go for a day of fun in God's beautiful kingdom." The settings are indeed beautiful, but didn't relate to everyday experience, and (for example) singing "Kum Bay Yah" with an up tempo dance routine seemed out of place. Technically, it's fine (apart from some naff miming) but it lacks imagination and is very, very American in style. (Lots of fixed grins and artificial dialogue.) When you transfer from audio tape to video, you immediately create a context for the songs and although the songs themselves may be okay, no care has been taken to put them in a meaningful context. Shots of happy smiling children, in a nice setting do not necessarily add to the songs. In my opinion, although this video may teach some songs, it does little to teach them anything about what it means to be a worshipper of God.
