If you thought Cliff Richard's regular Christmas recordings are "contemporary" then what Take 6 do to the likes of "Away In A Manger", "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Silent Night" on 'He Is Christmas' is nothing short of awesome. The carols are transformed not by the obvious addition of funky rhythm tracks but by layers of spine-tingling acapella jazz harmonies. Standouts are the group's first track with band "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" (and what a band! - those dazzling instrumentalists The Yellowjackets) and the title track penned by the group's Claude McKnight. Gorgeous stuff.
