An acappella quintet, comparatively young, which has thrived under the tutelage of some of Alabama's veteran traditional black gospel quartets. The area's distinctive gospel style typically features a hard driving lead singer backed by tight, pumping close harmony including a strong bass voice. The components are present, the Sunlights have learned the trade well, but have eased back on the more rampant excesses of lead and bass. The special attraction of this ensemble is their inclusion of other acappella styles. Thomas Dorsey's "Today" is sung in classic New York street corner doowop, and if you're heartily sick of the hoary chestnut "In The Garden" you must sample this barbershop treatment, blossoming out to a black gospel impassioned bellow of rejoicing. An immaculate set from a vocal group superbly maintaining a fine tradition.
