This, as the name suggests, is a five track EP of songs played on (Unplugged) acoustic instruments. The Electrics are basically an electric rock band that use certain folk instruments. The idea behind this EP is a good one and the songs are basically fine but there is more to acoustic music than just bashing out simple rock chords and rhythms on acoustic instruments. Sadly, the sound is more like a cheaply produced rock band than a quality acoustic one. The production and the songs aren't as good as 'Visions And Dreams' and sec-cred producer Kevin Key (Deacon Blue, Hue And Cry et al) doesn't stop the lads sounding like a bunch of indifferent buskers. Basically, it sounds too much like the (plugged in) Electrics on a low budget. A major disappointment.

Hi Dickon
oh dear !
"there is more to acoustic music than just bashing out simple rock chords and rhythms on acoustic instruments"

i can assure you that the band do far more than that.
We pride ourselves on being pretty decent musicians in fact,,so that is an extremely unfair comment.

not as bad as this one though;

"doesn't stop the lads sounding like a bunch of indifferent buskers"

thats just not nice;-)

we are equally comfortable playing more follky stuff in an acoustic setting, or blowing the roof off with electric instruments through a p.a.
If you have ever seen our live show,in any setting,
you would already know that.

Sometimes the budget for recordings simply isnt what a band would like,so its impossible to make less expensive recordings sound live expensive ones.
The alternative would be to release no records at all.
i feel the short review above could focus on the positive aspects of the music, rather than the technical side,without the barbed comments.
Though of course its all about opinions;-)

cheers mate
