The Fabulous is a four piece band from Michigan who state on their MySpace page "We just want to write good rock music!" although their page has not been updated for some time and there doesn't seem to be much information anywhere else about them. As soon as the first track started I sat up, as this is not just good, but great rock music! The production is first class, with a vibrant energy to the music that places it as a kind of cross between the raucousness of The Stone Temple Pilots and the soaring anthems of U2, plus the occasional analogue synth. The songs are very solidly written and performed, particular highlights being the unexpected and interesting off-beat rhythm of the second verse of "Blind Man" and the beautiful vocal on the title track. Of particular note, vocalist, AJ has an extremely wide vocal range both in terms of pitch and timbre. My only gripe is that it's not always easy to work out what he is singing about due to being swamped by the guitars at times (sounds like my parents when I was a teenager!) reinforcing the benefit of printing lyrics on a CD insert. I wasn't able to discern anything particularly "Christian" though. Musically excellent though, so I hope we hear some more from The Fabulous in the future.
