A fascinating double CD project which came out, rather unnoticed, a year ago. It’s a clever idea Kingsway came up with. Take a heap of British worship choruses which had once significantly impacted the British churches but which today only have seriously dated recordings and give them a makeover with one of Nashville’s most talented producers. The producer in question is the wonderful Derri Dougherty and with Derri and the equally wonderful Kate Miner handling the vocals the effect is often exceptional. So if you want to hear “The Servant King”, “Be Still”, “To Be In Your Presence”, “Father God I Wonder” and a whole lot more skilfully and sensitively contemporised, this is for you. Sometimes the banality of the song (eg, “Come On And Celebrate”) stops complete enjoyment. But more often this works, and works well.
