Wexford-based Sammy and Kylie Horner will be well known to Cross Rhythms readers as producers of several high quality Celtic releases over the years. This 11-track album was born after playing a show in Melbourne, Australia alongside a number of other artists, followed by a suggestion by producer Brian Baker that they could make something together - 'The Australian Sessions' is the result. Based loosely around local themes/connections, there are many outstanding songs here. "Wiradjuri" features the true story of Aborigines rescuing people in a 19th century natural disaster while the opener "Coober Pedy Opel Mine" , with Kylie's outstanding Americana style vocals, is a joy to listen to. The gentler "Orphan Girl" is a beautiful story song about a girl who toils in a workhouse and the Celtic feel of "Hand Of The Almighty" finishes the collection with a prayer for the nation. Thoroughly recommended.
