Following the success of The Waiting's self-titled debut album with Sparrow, this 1995 independent effort is re-released as a "collector's item" with the added bonus of four new songs. Kicking off with "Look At Me" we are immediately in soft rock territory of the Jars Of Clay kind. It's a good sound, but ultimately forgettable because it's often rather tame and detached. Songs like "Israel" and "Dead Man" have a tougher character and funkier sound that seems to work better. The new tracks, co-produced by The Choir's Steve Hindalong, take this direction further as all the good elements of the previous tracks are grouped into a more naturally cohesive style, best shown in the fabulous "Charming One". This album will certainly appeal more to already converted fans, but their current material is good enough to ensure plenty of those.
