Vocal Few are husband and wife duo Matt and Kristie McDonald who have forged out a growing following for lovers of laidback acoustic music. This five-song release reflects on Christmas from a slightly different perspective from most other yuletide releases. It opens with "Ice Storm 2008 (Merry Christmas)" which paints a picture of a community drawing together as the weather worsens. "Oh Holy Night" only bears similarity to the carol in title, with the lyrics totally re-written and featuring some beautiful, gentle harmonies. The often reflective lyrics on such songs as "Beloved" and "Not Giving Up" and the simple, understated production throughout make for a charming release and a refreshing change from the usual seasonal output that floods the market each year.
