Rob Evans - The Donut Man embraces Catholicism, loses other church support

ONE OF Integrity Music's best selling children's ministries, Rob Evans, otherwise known as The Donut Man, spoke recently about how his conversion to Catholicism last year has affected his bookings in non-Catholic churches. Although The Donut Man has seen more Catholic parishes in the USA extend invitations to him, his other church appearances have steadily dwindled. Evans told Christian Retailing magazine, "I'm getting more and more calls from churches who have invited me to assure them that I won't do anything overtly Catholic. I assure them I will honour their tradition, but the phone isn't ringing like it used to."

At a mid-January performance in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Evans said he met a woman who told of visiting an evangelical bookstore to look for a reference title and found its Catholic product shelved under Cults. "Obviously there's a very strong anti-Catholic prejudice in (Christian) bookstores," said Evans. CR
