Scotland's Triumph decide to fold after nine years.

BRITAIN'S only full time evangelistic rock band, Triumph, have broken up. They played their last concert in Manchester on 14th July heralding the end of a nine-year ministry during which time Triumph have recorded three albums and played before an estimated half a million people. Said founder member Gordon Cowan. "I'm obviously very disappointed that the band has had to finish due to what were primarily financial difficulties. We had to take in £3,500 each and every month just to pay band members a wage of £250 a month. That has proven increasingly difficult. We had to ask ourselves 'if there isn't enough provision within the Church is God saying something new?'" Asked whether he was bitter at the apathy of the church towards a rock-gospel evangelistic ministry Cowans replied "No it's impossible to be bitter when half a million young people heard the gospel through Triumph's work who wouldn't have heard it. But there is a negative attitude within many churches towards what an evangelistic rock band is doing." The lead singer of Triumph, Jim Ritchie, is to embark on a solo career. Future touring and recording plans will be announced shortly. CR
