Jazz is gaining an ever increasing audience amongst gospel followers with acts like Kirk Whallum, Ben Tankard and Harold Rayford making albums that although nearer to Kenny G than the creative masters of yesteryear have in their inclusion of gospel songs old and new an ability to connect with everyday church goers. St Louis, Missouri-based 3 Central are destined to find plenty of takers with this, their debut album. Consisting of Ken Anderson (keyboards) and brothers Russell (sax) and Everett Moore (drums, guitar) the trio make music full of feel-good tonality which is often uplifting. The opening track "Follow Your Heart" is mellow and easy on the ears with some silky smooth sax lines from Russ while the title cut is a groovy mesmerising number with an intriguing drum part to emphasise the R&B feel. "Talk To Me" is one of the few tracks on the CD that includes vocals with Pamela Major blending nicely with the tranquil rhythm. Also featured here is a cover of "It Might Be You (All Of My Life)", a sophisticated remake of the classic made famous by Stephen Bishop. Lovers of smooth jazz will find much here to enjoy.
