Reviewed by Brendan O'Regan Anyone with broad tastes in music will find lots to admire and enjoy on this CD and DVD. There's fine choral singing, for example on the familiar opening hymn, "Praise My Soul, The King Of Heaven", though as it's live with an orchestra it's hard at times to make out the words (on the DVD you can switch on the words as subtitles). There's also some serious classical stuff here as well, from the likes of Handel ("Zadok The Priest") and Elgar ("Allegro: Finale From Enigma Variations"), all played with aplomb by the fine All Souls Orchestra. Familiar songs get an outing here, including "You Raise Me Up", "The Flower Duet" and "The Holy City", both sung by tenor Jonathan Veira. However, fans of contemporary praise music are not left out - there are some beautiful songs by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, with the lovely vocals of Kristyn Getty prominent on these - my favourite being "In Christ Alone". Some Graham Kendrick songs feature as well and I loved the calypso flavoured "The Trumpets Sound (The Feast Is Ready)", which featured lead vocals from Kendrick himself. There is a comprehensive booklet, with detailed credits and all lyrics. I just wanted to be there in that audience at the Royal Albert Hall to watch Noel Tredinnick conduct the proceedings, and I got to come close to that - though it's not clear from the notes, the DVD features the full concert, with extra tracks and features. It's a brilliant addition, beautifully filmed, and perfectly captures the spirit of the occasion. I'd highly recommend watching the DVD first.
