Only Cross Rhythms could bring you a Christian dulcimer album review! Chicago-based Young has produced an album which takes a number of folk influences and spins them into a selection of vocal and instrumental music. Totally acoustic in nature, this is a feast of acoustic-bass, dulcimer, whistles, bodhran and fiddle. Reels and jigs whirl and a couple of less frantic instrumentals "Burton's Air" and "Breezy Window" are lovely! If you like Irish music or you're an old folkie fan, this is one to investigate with creative playing and Young proving his skills on the dulcimer and whistle. One of the vocal tunes is the highlight of the album. "Garden" from which is taken the title of the album is written from the perspective of one of Young's friends who is living with AIDS. Yet the song reflects the friend's hope that goes beyond a thousand summers as he plants a garden. He metaphorically sows seeds for a life of purity, different from the seeds of the past. Heartfelt.
