The Astronaut Pushers can only be roughly described as an indie Christian supergroup featuring Charlie Peacock's son Sam Ashworth, blue-eyed soul man John Davis and Sixpence None The Richer's Matt Slocum and Ben Folds' drummer Lindsay Jamieson. Originally released in 2005, the four songs here are all you'd expect from such an all star line up. The opening "Cut Me Off" has the Pushers rocking but there's plenty of diversity even within the four songs and the shared lead vocals from Davis and Ashworth on difference songs work well. My favourite has to be "Come On Make It Harder" with its changing textures and creative ideas. "Bacharaquattack" and "Nobody Wants" are gentler songs but not without edge. To be honest what is brought to mind is The Beatles with the variety of sounds and experimentation. The sad thing for me hearing this release is that in three years, there hasn't been a follow up and with all the protagonists involved in other projects, it's unlikely there'll be anything else coming down the pipe soon. Shame really as the potential is huge. If you're a fan of indie music, this has got to be one to track down.if you can.
