As anyone who heard the recent radio discussion with Mike Rimmer and Mark Hamilton (Shekelback) will know, I, like plenty of other followers of contemporary Christian music, am rather disillusioned by how stylized the bulk of youth worship music has become. However much I like surging Edge-like guitar lines, anthemic choruses and reverb-drenched drums, the fact is that too many of today's crop of worship projects sound like they were cookie-cut from a template that hasn't changed since the early days of Delirious? (ie, one part Brit pop, one part U2 and a whole heap of stadium rock clichés). If you're looking for an album which boldly steps clear of these generic tendencies you had better look elsewhere. Although this was recorded a long way from Australia (at the Audacious City Church in Manchester, in fact) it is as stylized as any Hillsong United album. But if you want to punch the air and jump around a bit while making simple declarations to the Lord like "I'm gonna raise my voice/I'm gonna give my heart/I'm gonna sing your praise" or "I will sing, sing to you/Because of your unending love/I will sing, sing to you/Because you love me" this atmospheric live set will do you fine.
