In CR19 Back To Basics' cassette single "Perfect Love" was criticised for "longsongitis". Well, they listened, as on this album nothing lasts too long. Indeed, this reviewer would have liked more than the eight tracks on offer. Still, we get some good AOR with a pop feel to it and some excellent guitar work from Stephan Cowan. Okay, so vocalist Allan Hampson strains on some of his top notes and there are more proof reading errors on the cassette inlay than Cross Rhythms would tolerate (!) but these are quibbles. This is a fine album with catchy songs and professional musicianship. Well done chaps (and chapess Tamsin Frost). I can think of worse ways of spending six quid. And look, I've managed to review 'Back To Basics' without any cheap party political gags.
