South African-born Basil Nadesan has teamed up with well known Brit producer and keyboard player Mark Edwards to produce an interesting set of worship songs, drawing on jazz, Latin and Caribbean styles. Reflections of Incognito, Stevie Wonder, Santana and even the late Keith Green can be heard in various songs here. There is plenty of interest and variation in the music, and the choice of musicians cannot be faulted (some of New Frontiers finest, including Louise Fellingham on bvs). The only valid criticism would be of the lyrics, which are pretty simple and often as repetitive as Children's TV adverts. But then to folk looking for new congregational praise songs, I guess that could be quite appealing. Anyway, the spirit of worship and freedom is certainly captured by the feel of the music as it builds and unfolds, gets funky and chills. It's worth checking out if you're looking for something fresh, inspirational and totally free from corporate blandness.
