In the early '80s Bob and Pauline Wilson were part of the critically acclaimed but commercially unsuccessful mainstream band Seawind. The husband and wife team signed a one off deal with Word Records to record a more clearly Christian side project with the understanding that the words sea and wind were not to be mentioned. The result that 'Somebody Loves You' is a Seawind project in everything but name. The lithe jazz funk R&B fusion is in place. The strong songs, tight horns and Pauline's fabulous voice are all there. The only difference is that in this collection, the songs are definitely packed full of Christian content and the result is fabulous. Considering it was recorded in 1981, it still sounds cool on its re-release as a Japanese impor. Highlights are the funky title song and the opening cut "I'll Keep My Eyes On Jesus". When things slow down, "Joyful Melody" and the gorgeous closer "Jesus Is My Lord" feature the comfortable laid back vibes that mark out so many Seawind albums. The result is a little gem that many CCM buffs have forgotten about. On its release it was a Word Record Club album of the month. I wonder how many vinyl copies of this are boxed in people's attics somewhere?
