Caedmon's Call has established themselves on the Christian music scene, gelled as a band and find themselves in the "land of redemption". This album shares the travels of a group who are not so much a band as a musical collective, with three lead singers and two songwriters. Their diversity does not allow a single ego to dominate, but must make it hard to integrate each part into a whole creatively intact. Clearly the result of years of practice and good training in all involved, the music is also catchy and thoroughly written. Though strum-centred, their sound is fuller: more pop ballad than folk. The male singing has that professional Mickey Dolenz twang like Jars of Clay. In fact, you could say that Caedmon's Call are to Eden Burning what the Jars are to Delirious? Not everyone will enjoy this very American student rock despite it's smooth, carefully produced professionalism. Like the Corrs, none of these songs quite reach hit status. The lyrics show poetic vocabulary but lack the poetry of idea and form. This is their honeymoon album: established but yet to bear fruit. One to watch.
