Tennessee-based Callann had the kind of start in the music industry parents dream of for their kids. Formally know as Cali she has taken a couple of years out to do mission work and has returned with maturity to the music she loves. Releasing material in drip feed EP form, 'Rise Like A Star' is the first of what will no doubt be many. "About It" starts the proceedings with a distinctly Avril Lavigne vibe followed the dance rap of "Call Me Crazy" - there are two versions here - before moving on to the ballad "Rise". "So Long" is another guitar-led pop romp with "Dancing Machine" being a better than fair attempt at a real dance track. The EP closes with the almost worship song "Glorious Things" and the rap version of "Call Me Crazy". The songwriting is good as is Callann's voice and the production is top rate. Well worth getting hold of.
