American Chris Taylor has, for many years, been producing quality blues rock, building up a small but loyal fan base. This live collection is available for download and contains over an hour of music that reveals the intimate nature of Chris' live performances. Production is raw with many rough edges left untouched; a couple of bursts of feedback can surprise the unwary. Taylor's voice provokes emotion, reminding me at times of both Larry Norman and Bono. His passionate cries are full of grit and soul, but in quieter moments are haunting and ethereal. Backing is provided throughout by a collection of talented musicians, however few are credited on the handwritten insert. Highlights include the guitar-driven, bluesy "Broken Hearts Club" and the moody "33" which contains evocative female vocals in the chorus. I also enjoyed the extended instrumental breakdowns included throughout the album; there is an honesty about this music that is contagious. Although this is far from a polished and packaged offering, the quality of Chris' songwriting talent shines through some rough and ready recording.

Where can I download this album? There is a (nearly) free download of Chris Taylor Songs at noisetrade.com. But I think these are studio recordings. Its funny that some of the best and most original songwriters in all the christian music are called 'Taylor'. (Chris Taylor, Steve Taylor, Terry Taylor)
