This three-CD box set dedicates a disc to three of America's most prominent worship leaders, all of whom who have risen to popularity through the seminal Passion events. They have obviously taken advantage of good recording and mixing technology to produce very clear and crisp albums and each have a very catchy vibe. The next thing to notice is that all three have an occasional fondness of slightly loud, melodic electric guitars (always guaranteed to get my attention). But none of this is any use if there aren't good songs to go with it, and all have tracks that grab the ears extremely effectively. Charlie Hall goes for a certain kind of indie-rock intensity in songs such as "Salvation" and "King Of Glory", but not at the expense of drowning out the acoustic guitars. The Dave Crowder Band have a more laid-back feel which shows some hints of Coldplay, particularly with the song "Wonderful King". But more gravelly and soulful vocals, plus the odd bit of record-deck scratching, give the band their own sound too. Chris Tomlin makes a declaration from the start of his first track, "The Noise We Make", and goes on to give particularly rousing renditions of songs of his which have become modern church favourites, including "Forever" and "Be Glorified". But all three also show that Christian music can have a modern music sensibility without sacrificing heart, devotion and passion.
