Great idea: a musical tour around Coventry Cathedral, the nation's favourite 20th century building. We start with Britten's "Jubilate" which connects us with the 1962 Consecration Festival and the first performance of his War Requiem. Then back to the mystery plays for the "Coventry Carol". Next is Brahms' "Geistliches Lied" reminding us of the links between Coventry and Germany. And we continue with familiar names (Howells, Stainer, Vaughan Williams) and others less so. My favourite is "And There Was War In Heaven" by Neil Cox. This was composed for a Michaelmas Festival when the choir parades out to acclaim Epstein's sculpture depicting St Michael defeating Satan. Worth a listen and worth a visit. Perhaps one could combine the two?
