From the new romantic feel of "Bring Me Close" to the gentle evocation of "Take Me", Cross Reference's new 8-track recording shows the band's potential for great things. Vocalists Rachel Shorey and Lucy Doulton in particular have voices full of character, as does lead singer Warner Pidgeon. Production is quite crisp and highlights the band's playing well - I particularly enjoyed the flute lines and one or two ferocious keyboard solos! But there are some moments in the album where intonation is very weak which makes listening hard work; the group need to get a tighter sound; and introspective lyrics cloud some of the songs. But the overall message of God's love in a needy world comes through.
