One of the most enduring talents on America's CCM scene, versatility has long been Crystal's forte, able to do full tilt black gospel emoting, inspirational balladry, rock chick attitude and most other styles you care to mention. On this latest set she kicks off with a funky R&B tune "So Happy" that wouldn't sound out of place on a Trin-I-Tee 5:7 album while there are some hard guitar riffs on "Just Sing" making it sound a bit Anastasia-like. Crystal's phrasing is as flawless as ever while the Spanish acoustic guitar-driven "My Emmanuel" is a nice closer. Oh, and there's even a bit of Billie Holliday/Corinne Bailey Rae on the jazz-tinged "Image Of God". The received wisdom in pop is that playing TOO fast and loose with the style-jumping simply confuses the public (look at the incomprehension shown by many fans to Daniel Bedingfield's second album). But Crystal has been flitting from style to style for years without it doing her much harm. 'See' doesn't contain a killer radio hit of the quality of "People Get Ready". But it's still pop, R&B, Latin, rock class.
