Those who've been following British Christian ministry for awhile should be aware of the tireless work of Dave Griffiths. Once he fronted his fondly remembered band Bosh and more recently put together the worship collective Chaos Curb Collaboration who have toured with Martin Smith and made a very fine album, 'Everything'. Now, after two solo mini-albums 'The Way Through The Land' (2013) and 'Horizons' (2005), this most gifted of singer/songwriters releases a powerful, and at times provocative, solo full length set. The album shows influences from his past projects (including Chaos Curb Collaboration) and helped by strong production by Dave Evans and Nashville man Matt Spracken, the result is a creatively focused pop and rock album. The title track and the catchy "Awake" has the rock feel of Bosh, the latter driven by a steady drum beat, the former by a swathe of electrifying guitars. "Yeshua" is closer to Chaos Curb and provides a showcase for both great songwriting and Dave's voice which here is loaded with emotion. My favourite is "10 years", a song dedicated to his wife, which is beautiful in its simplicity. Here's hoping that the Bournemouth-based songsmith can continue to utilise his singing, songwriting and production skills for years to come because the body of Christ needs such divinely focused musicianaries as Dave.
