A six-song CD from Cornish singer/songwriter David Asplin. This is a competent first recording with some pleasantly laid back worship songs in a typically Brit-worship/Matt Redman/Vineyard style. David leads worship at his church and the songs included here sound as if they would generally work well in a congregational setting, so if you're after some new material then this might be worth a look. Having said that, some of the songs are a bit raw and could probably do with going through a few more rewrite cycles before being put on public display, and I found the slightly Liam Gallagher-ish whine of the vocals rather irritating. Together with some rather poor enunciation at times, this can make it grate and reduces the impact of the album. This is an area where tighter production would help - it isn't that David is a bad singer, but recording tends to emphasise any sloppiness and this is what's happened here. Overall, though, this is an encouraging start - I'm marking it down a bit because of the flaws mentioned, but with work (and maybe the assistance of a more experienced producer) there is some potential here.
