The third album in this growing series, with almost 60 minutes of music focusing on the person of the Holy Spirit. As with previous albums in the series, the inlay card includes meditative quotes from a companion volume; in this case Dr John Deere’s book Surprised By The Power Of The Spirit. On first hearing it was track seven, “Fire”, before my enthusiasm was sparked. Perhaps that’s because I was not as familiar with the 12 tracks of this album, or the lyricists. (Only Paul Oakley and the late William Booth were names that stood out.) Or perhaps it’s that this is much more a selection of ‘live’ worship tracks, not my favourite genre. It could be argued that the atmospheric, rather ethereal sound is entirely appropriate to the subject of the Holy Spirit, but with ‘studio’ tracks mixed down with the same ambience, the overall impression is one of sameness. It’s ironic, or a reflection on my mini-system, that I only fully appreciated this contemplative album at much increased volume on subsequent hearings! It must be a series policy that again no artist credits are give, which is frustrating. I’d like to know more about, for example, “Say The Word” and where I can hear more like it.
