It's always exciting to discover a new band, and even more exciting to see a band's name in the press a fair bit and then, when you finally hear them, find that they deliver the goods. Free Flights Up (cool name) are one such band. Name-checking such acts as Longview and (to a lesser extent to these ears) My Vitriol and Radiohead in their press bio should give an indication of where this is headed, while Andy Buchanan's vocals are well utilised and unique (in a good way). The rhythm section, particularly on "Lost Saviour", is tight and inventive, while the driving guitar and clever embellishments make this a sure-fire radio hit. With a growing live reputation in the clubs of London and beyond, this is certainly a band to watch out for in the coming months, and when you consider that this was given away free at gigs, one can only imagine what they could come up with if provided with a decent recording budget. A very exciting discovery.
