Taken from her recent album 'My Purpose', the single "Can't Live" - a sanctified reworking of the R Kelly hit - features an accomplished vocal performance from the Mississippi-based pastor-cum-gospel singer in what is a pleasant enough slice of slow burning soulful praise. From the spoken intro to the overall sentiment that Pugh's life is nothing without God, the song itself promotes total reliance on the Lord and will certainly minister to those who already believe in Christ and if gospel music is their thing. Despite this being an undeniably competent piece of work, it lacks a certain originality and the somewhat predictable lyricism, together with the inclusion of a radio edit as well as instrumental and vocal only versions of the track, unfortunately makes it feel as if it's all been done before.
