There is a strangely impersonal touch to the compositions, which are always hovering on the edge of familiarity. Yes, some themes we recognised from worship songs from the last couple of decades, but more often the music suggests other, rather more gifted melodists: Sondheim one moment, Dvorak's New World symphony the next in 'Peace And Rest'; any one of John Williams' film scores in 'Faith And Victory'. Being really up against it in our house at the moment, and (praise God) blessed with real peace, we recognise this music as a poor, synthetic alternative.
