In case you didn't know, Isla has already made considerable headway in the mainstream. She is from Duns in the Borders of Scotland and she has a country tinge to her voice and with plenty of country-style instruments in the backing band. I could have categorised this as country, or even Celtic. Isla writes her own material and her albums are distributed by Rosette Records of London, the company that handles Daniel O'Donnell, so you might be getting an idea as to who this sort of market niche this is aimed at. There's not a huge amount of overt Christian content in thee self-penned songs, although it's clear from the sleevenotes that Isla is a true believer. In other hands this sort of MOR country might be so much sentimental mush, but Isla manages to carry it off with some aplomb, without descending into terminal cheesiness. A well recorded and sung album, there are a lot of folks who will go for this.
