Another gospel family that sprang from the womb all apparently equipped with fine gospel voices though there's some way to go before they catch up with those Detroit superstars however. First the weaknesses: the first apparent lack is in the song writing department, the responsibility for much of which falls on the shoulders of Monty Jackson who also takes care of the majority of the lead vocals. There are no great songs here. Weakness number two lies in arrangements that are often bland and on the ballads smothered in saccharine string arrangements - too much "contemporary" gospel sounds the most middle-of-the-road soul. I don't go for the "We are family" sales angle much either (Sister Sledge did it better.) Still, pleasant enough voice, and I have no doubt this has all been put together with the best and most sincere intentions. Best track for me is "We Need Jesus", with the shared lead vocals giving more of a genuine group feel to the proceedings (rather than Monty and his backing singers) and some real brass adding zest to a kicking backing track. Still, its' a long way from California to Detroit.
