An assemblage of British musicians: Malcolm Strachan (trumpet), Jason Rae and Mike Ford (saxes), Mike Cox (flute/clarinet), Simon Pugsley (trombone) and Frank Mizen (guitar/vibes/piano/bass). Orchestrations were by Frank Mizen and it was produced by Chris Norton. So what of the music? One of the most confusing albums I’ve heard in awhile, ‘In Your Presence’ made me giggle. Sounding like bizarre Christian karaoke, the concept is one which seems well suited to car journeys. I’m talking giggling in a good, constructive way, jazz pelted out in the form of easily recognisable worship songs, it’ll get the whole family grooving to the well produced album. The slower songs verge into muzak territory, but a fantastic rendition of “We Wanna See Jesus Lifted High,” liberates the rest of the album to class status.
