Joe King is, in Cross Rhythms' opinion, one of the most talented yet underrated musicians in the whole of the UK Church and down the decades has occasionally emerged to show what an excellent singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist he is. This album was originally released in 2015 and has an unusual structure. The first five tracks are intended for meditational worship "soaking sessions" and feature repeated phrases on the piano with Joe's smooth and soothing voices making simple declarations about God's glory and how much we love him. One track, aided by dramatic percussion, leads to a soaring climax which, when used in group sessions or personal times of meditation, would surely be an aid to a fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit. Then there are two songs, "Just To Love You" and "The Best Is Yet To Come", which almost seem like they're from another album with a more "complete" verse/chorus structure. Also, it's a little surprising considering Joe's expertise on guitar that "Just To Love You" is the only track on 'Stars In Every Corner' to feature the instrument. After these songs, the album has a spoken introduction and prayer followed by instrumental mixes of three of the first batch of songs which I found soothing and relaxing. All in all, another impressive example of the West Yorkshire-based church musician's exceptional skills.
