Originally recorded in 1982 at First Baptist Church in Crown Heights, New York, the church printed up a few copies and it knocked around as a locally released record until it was taken up and remixed to become a club and dancefloor hit. This 12 inch from 1986 features the Phyliss Joubert song in "A Clappella" and instrumental versions as well as the extended 12 inch mix which was put together by Joubert and George Rodriguez. The story goes that the original gospel version pressed by the church was played by an enthusiastic gospel fan who worked at a local record shop so that local DJs heard the song and decided to create a more commercial backing and give it a wider appeal. One of those, Tony Humphries created a fantastic remix which is featured here which became a hit on the local New York club scene.
