Okay, okay, like everyone else I pronounced it Fifty Two. There's even a track here, "KJ Five Two", to put it right once and for all. This is unquestionably the rapper's most commercially accessible album and though that might disappoint purist devotees of the hip-hop underground, it now expands his audience to the same base who are into the TobyMac end of things. "Don't Go" is one standout, expressing the pain of a child whose parents are going through a divorce. Equally engaging are the regular comic interludes which are often merely irritating on many a hip-hop set, but here raise a smile with their incisive wit. And pride of place goes to "Dear Slim Pt 2", like its predecessor on 'Collaborations', an open letter to Eminem which, again like "Pt1", shows considerable compassion towards the rap superstar. "So In Love With You" features a hook sung by the rapper himself against a delicious clavinet riff. Outstanding stuff from a still growing talent.
