The real reggae deal. Some delicious samples from a JA preacher and a nice line in sinuous rhythms topped with some top rate leads and harmonies make this an excellent set from an eight-piece apparently doing great things in Jamaica. I loved "Open Your Eyes" and "Riding High" - complete with growling toaster that's a ringer for Christafari's Mark Mohr. This is a sound that manages to be both authentically roots yet truly commercial. Not everything works. Their reggification of the old hymn "Nothing But The Blood" is a bit lame and towards the end of the album the songs grow less infectious. Also, the group work best when they stay clear of R&B rhythms. But when they're on their game Katalys Crew offer a truly delightful reggae concoction. Definitely one for regular listeners to Mike Francis' show to search out.
