As has been well documented already, kids' praise and worship albums are the sort that many Cross Rhythms reviewers dread. However, recent evidence suggests that the worst days of the genre are, thankfully, long gone, and people in the USA seem to have realised that it's time to spend some cash in their production rather than continuing to adopt the cheap-and-cheerful approach that made us all cringe back in the 1990s. This latest offering from Sparrow gives us 10 tracks, and well known songs they are too, from the repertoires of such luminaries as Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, TobyMac and Jeremy Camp. The problem for me is, what is the thinking behind getting kids to sing grown-up worship songs (some of which might be lyrically obscure to someone of tender years)? None of the singers are named in the CD sleeve, and whilst they do a competent job, they can't match the composers' cuts, which are without exception so much better.
