Being a young Methodist used to have its drawbacks on Cup Final day in years gone by. Whilst other lads were Wembley bound, members of the Methodist Association of Youth Clubs were summoned to make merry music together in the Royal Albert Hall. Nowadays they meet on other weekends and outside the capital. This album was recorded at last year's get together in Coventry where the MAYC Orchestra and Choir were joined by Matt Redman and the Kingdom Choir. Redman leads the assembled masses in creditable versions of several of his songs - including the title track. The guest choir curiously opt for "Up Where We Belong" and the exceedingly over recorded "Oh Happy Day". "Shout To The Lord" seems destined to suffer a similar fate but the host choir manage a valiant resuscitation job. In fact, most of the other tracks feature worship standards. These include songs by Delirious?, Graham Kendrick and the musicians of Holy Trinity Brompton. Dyed in the wool Wesleyans will enjoy a stirring rendition of "Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven" but they won't find a single hymn from the back catalogue of brother Charles. Times have changed - even for Methodists.
