Manchester's Marcus, usually known as Max, has been in the business of writing and producing his own music for nearly two decades now. Previous articles about the singer explain his potential - and I almost feel patronising to say that after 19 years he's still only showing potential, and not quite fulfilling it. Don't get me wrong, of the 17 songs on the album, there are certainly more than a few good tunes. "Home (Never Letting Go)" reminds me of the Eagles, with its guitar twang and rich backing vocals, whereas "Turn A Light On" has a catchy melody and intriguing lyrics. The music pleasantly plods on - particularly through "Hold On" and "I'm Sorry", two beautifully constructed pieces - until the last track, "Home 2", which features Beatles-esque vocal and musical arrangements. Although enjoyable to listen to, I think 'I Am Home' would have been stronger on the whole had Marcus ditched a few of the weaker tracks (such as the random 40-second musical interludes and the disastrous "Monster"!) and put a bit more passion into his singing; the words were good, but I didn't really feel them as much as I'd have liked.
